SouthStar Management Institute and Project Based Learning Approach

Better than traditional training methods, PBL (or Project-Based Learning) is a learner-centered training method on the basis of an integrated classroom organization. To improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning, McMaster University first applied it to training since 1969, and sponsored by UNESCO and selected Aalborg University (Denmark) as the base for deployment around the world.

SMi_Duy Tan University presented a presentation at the 2015 PBL International Conference

As soon as catching the training trend in the world and realizing the effectiveness of applying the PBL training model in higher education, SMi organized PBL training courses for staff. The application of PBL in training has brought positive effects to the study and research work of students at SMi in recent years. At the PBL International Conference, SMi presented 2 thematic reports in the fields of Administration and Finance including:

  1. PBL Implementation of Computer Simulation in the Teaching of Strategic Management at Duy Tan University
  2. Obstacles in the PBL Adoption for the Accounting Discipline at Duy Tan University

Dr. David Saiia, Dean of SMi, said: “When applying the PBL model to training, SMi has done it carefully, has a clear roadmap, and has a process of testing and evaluation, compare the achieved results seriously to get an overview of the training effectiveness, thereby making timely changes and adjustments. Therefore, the results of the past years that SMi has achieved through reports at the Conference have been highly appreciated by delegates from many parts of the world.”
